Ngurra Kujungka

Western Desert Sports Carnival

Ngurra Kujungka uses sport, art, music and culture to drive improvements in health, training, employment and education for the people of the Western Desert.

Ngurra Kukungka coordinates the Western Desert Sports Carnivals, held during the school holidays 3 times a year, hosted by Western Desert communities. The Western Desert football and softball Leagues are played during the carnivals, which are drug and alcohol free. A variety of health, sport and art organisations attend the carnival, adding to the activities on offer for the community.

Diabetes WA is an official partner of Ngurra Kujungka and will be attending at least two sports carnivals a year. At the carnivals Diabetes WA delivers interactive healthy lifestyle activities for the children such as cooking, storytelling and art. We can also provide diabetes education for adults and upskill local health services, depending on what the community wants.

We also work closely with our partners Desert Feet Tour at the carnivals, who help the kids write, perform and record songs with healthy messages in them. See our Desert Feet Tour page for more information on this partnership.
